Portugal based Seun Ajetunmobi of the National Security and Civil Defence corps,NSCDC and Offiong Edem have won the 4th edition of the Reach Out Nigeria,R.O.N, table tennis championship in the Men's and Women's Singles event sponsored in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.
The table tennis championship sponsored by Christ Embassy Church with the sum of two million naira as the prize money.
In a keenly contested game held at the auditorium of the Christ Embassy Church , Ajetunmobi defeated former junior champion, Ojo Onaolapo of Ondo state by four set to three, 11- 9,8 - 11, 9 - 11, 11 - 8, 7 - 11,11 - 9,13 - 11.
For his feat, Ajetunmobi won the star prize of four hundred naira while Ojo pocketed two hundred naira as Sola Oyetayo of NSCDC who lost to Ajetunmobi and Kazeem Makanjuola of NSCDC who lost to Ojo in the semi final clash to pick the joint third award shared the prize money.
In the women's singles, current All Africa Games gold medalist and Nigeria's number one female ping ponger, Offiong Edem, of Cross River state beat former junior champion Fatima Kazeem of the Nigeria Police 11 - 9, 8 - 11, 11 - 8, 6 - 11, 11 - 6.(3- 2)
For retaining her position, Offiong Edem, won to herself two hundred thousand naira while Fatima Kazeem got One hundred naiar for her efforts
Halimat Hussain of NSCDC who lost to Offiong in the semi final as well as Janet Friday who lost to Fatima Kazeem settled for the joint third awards where they shared the prize money of fifty thousand naira.
In the men's doubles the pair of D. Ayelumo/ Y. Olasoji beat Seun Ajetunmobi /Kayode Adedeji. While the joint third were O. Onaolapo/W. Fagbamila.
In the women's doubles the pair of Offiong Edem and Cecilia Otu beat H Hussain /Janet Friday. The joint third were A. Ofonime/ Yetunde Thompson and Fatimo Bello/F. Kazeem.
In the senior mixed doubles Kazeem Makanjuola /Offiong Edem beat Gbenga Anthony/Janet Friday. The joint third place were Kazeem Adedeji/Halimat Hussain and Seun Ajetunmobi/Cecilia Otu.
