The Swiss Embassy in Abuja on Tuesday granted entry visa into that
country to highly-respected Nigerian Assistant Referee, Peter Elgam
Edibe.
Edibe stood the risk of missing an important FIFA course which would
determine those to be considered for the final cut for the 2014 FIFA
World Cup finals, following the intransigence of the Embassy.
Despite the well-travelled arbiter presenting all necessary valid
documents, including letters and a return ticket from the world
football-governing body, the Swiss Embassy had told him his
application had come too late.
However, the Embassy eventually requested him to ask FIFA to route his
ticket away from the Shengen zone, in order to be considered.
FIFA
then sent Edibe another return ticket, and Tuesday evening, he was
granted visa into Switzerland, for the seminar that started on
Thursday.
“I am very happy. The Embassy has issued me visa into Switzerland.
I
will be departing on Wednesday,” an excited Peter Edibe said on the
phone.
The official will now fly out of Nigeria to Nairobi aboard Kenyan
Airways on Wednesday morning, before connecting a Swiss Air flight to
Zurich in the evening.
