Classic Sports Association Commends BRF.

Players of Ayo Olopon, draughts and Gidigbo were a delight to watch on Saturday at the Vetland Primary School, New Garage, Agege during the second Classic Sports Association Traditional Sports Championship organised in conjunction with the Office of the Special Assistant on Grassroots Sports Development to Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola in Ifako Ijaiye area of Lagos State.

 Even Ram Charging was another thrilling event that left the fans spellbound at the tournament put together to keep the people, both young and old, busy with participation in recreational activities in their localities.

 The sum of N235,000 was won by various winners at the one day competition with Ram Charging winner, Hardway from Ojokoro carting home the lion share of N35,000. Rude Boy of Dalemo, who won the second position of that event, went home with the sum of N30,000, while third and fourth place winners, Boko Haram of Ifako Ijaiye and Dagboru of Alimosho were given N15,000 respectively.

In Ayo Olopon, Adeleye Tope of Ifedayo Sports Club was the winner and was given the sum of N15,000, Ibrahim Ogunsola, who came second, received N10,000. Esan Oluwafemi and Hamzat Waliyu, who came third and fourth respectively, won N5,000 each. A keenly contested Draught event was won by Christian Mbat.

He took home the sum of N15,000. The second place winner, Amoo Mufutau, received N10,000, while Ajayi Hammed and Femi Adepo, who were third and fourth respectively, won the sum of N5,000 each.

The traditional wrestling, popularly called Gidigbo, was won by Sulaimon Umoru of Young Star Sports Club and he was given the sum of N30,000. Runner up, Kazeem Haruna, who wore the colours of New Garage Sports Club, was given N20,000. Mohammed Murtala of Ifedayo Sports Club and Abubakar Idris of Orient Sports Club, who came third and fourth respectively, won the sum of N10,000 each.

 Coordinator of Classic Sports Association, Mrs. Olukemi Jaiyeola commended Governor Fashola's vision to resuscitate the moribund traditional sports in Lagos.

She wanted more support to revive what she called neighbourhood games in the state as sports is a vehicle that can help government foster peaceful co-existence of the citizen in the society.
