Abiodun Adekunle of Angus Memorial Senior Secondary School and Zainab Akande of King Ado High School have emerged winners of the maiden edition of the Toyin Okenla -Ojeaga Table Tennis Championship which came to a close over the weekend at the Sir Molade Okoya- Thomas Sports hall.
Abiodun Adekunle of Angus Memorial Senior Secondary School ho was adjudged the Most Valuable Player in the male cadre defeated Micheal Abayomi of Ilupeju Senior Secondary School by four set to two, 11- 7, 11-13, 11 -2, 10- 12, 11- 9, 13 - 11, to grab the sum of thirty thosand naira,(=N=30,000.00) as the champion while Abayomi got twenty thousand naira(=N=20,000.00)
Adekunle, who commended the sponsor, Toyin Okenla -Ojeaga for deeming it necessary to beam her search light on the youths at the secondary school level, said the prize money would afford him the opportunity to pay for his National Examination Council Organization ,NECO andthe West African Examination Council,WAEC.
Adekunle, who train under the tutelage of coach summer of Shomolu, said his dream was to become Nigeria's top rated ping ponger as he also want to give part of the prize money to his parents to start petty trading.
Zainab Akande of King Ado High School who smiled home with the sum of thirty thousand naira (=N=30,000.00) for he feat, said the feat would encourage her to forge ahead in the sport.
Akande, who defeated Toyin Joseph of Baptist Junior Secondary School was adjudged the Most Valuable Player in the female category.
