Toyin Okenla - Ojeaga Under 17 Table Tennis Tourney Stroke Off Today.

Pupils from six education district will on Monday converge at the Sir Molade Okoya Thomas Indoor Sportshall for the maiden edition of the Toyin Okenla - Ojeaga Under 17 Secondary Schools Table Tennis Championship.

 The competition sponsored by former Nigerian international table tennis players,Toyin Okenla - Ojeaga is being supported by the Lagos State Ministry of Youth, Sports and Social Development.

Okenla- Ojeaga, who explained that her intension to stage the tournament was borne out of passion to encourage athletes to combine sports with education as the pupils would compete in seven events in the team, singles, doubles and mixed doubles events with the winning players and teams carting home cash prizes.

 She said education was fundamental to development as the move is the key to achieve desired goals, stressing that some of the nation's great table tennis players are living in poor conditions because they only focussed on sports.

The former national female ping ponger, who started playing table tennis for Lagos before mooving to former Bendel State, said her decision to sponsor the event would inspire others to delve into similar gesture in a bid to help nurture and lead the youths to the right path of life.

 She assured that the competition would be played on annual basis with a promise to provide scholarship awards during the second edition.
