Two players Golden Eaglets were involved in an auto accident on Sunday, while on their way to the team’s camp in Calabar.
While Adamu Abubakar reportedly suffered head and shoulder injuries, Friday Njengo was badly affected when the car they were travelling in from Jalingo, Taraba State was involved in a ghastly accident at Dan Anacha Village in Taraba State.
The accident was said to have occurred when a motorcycle rider suddenly dashed into the road. The driver swerved to avoid hitting the rider but ended up hitting a truck pusher.
The players were promptly taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Jalingo by their relations. They are said to be responding to treatment.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has been duly informed while Golden Eaglets' Head Coach Garba Manu (MFR) has been in constant communication with the hospital and monitoring the condition of the players.
"I called them at Federal Medical Centre and the doctor said Friday (Njengo) will undergo X-ray to determine the extent of injuries but he is still unconscious," a visibly shaken coach Garba
said, adding that it was unfortunate the accident happened at a time the youngsters were coming to serve their fatherland.
NFF President, Alhaji Aminu Maigari, who is in South Africa, has ordered that team officials should monitor the situation of the two players keenly and that two officials must immediately depart for
Jalingo for on-spot assessment of the condition of the players.
The Director of Technical, Dr. Emmanuel Ikpeme has immediately conveyed this message to the U-17 National Team crew. Meanwhile, almost the remaining 28 invited players have all reported to their Princeville Hotel Camp in Calabar as the team training begins in earnest
