As the next Sports Associations’ election draws closer, the fight for
the new president of Handball Federation of Nigeria seems to be a
settled matter weeks before the main contest.
Rising from their meeting over the weekend, the Handball Stakeholders
of Nigeria approved the candidature of Hon. Mark Jacob to be next
president of HFN.
Mark Jacob who was the former Vice President of the federation few
weeks ago indicated interest for the position the position of
president with the sole ambition of restoring the game of handball to
its former prime position in the perking order of sports in the
country.
The stakeholders after assessing the credentials of other candidates
which included the incumbent president Alhaji Yusuf Dauda, called on
them to step down their ambition and throw their weight behind the
chosen candidate pleading with them that they should be looking at the
bigger picture which is the development of handball in Nigeria.
Investigation shows that as at press time, all the candidates have
officially endorsed the candidature of Barr. Mark Jacob who was former
Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice Kaduna State and later
became the National Legal Adviser of People Democratic Party.
Though Mark Jacob was not present in the meeting, but his official
spokesman Mr. Saidu Jibril told newsmen that he felt honoured on the
opportunity given to Mark Jacob promising that the Kaduna State born
sports administrator will not let the larger handball family down.
“I believe that the nod given to my boss today is a well deserved one
and am promising the handball family that they have made the right
choice”
“I can tell you that handball is a familiar terrain for Mark Jacob and
not only that he played the game up to national team, he also
administered the game and won laurels for Nigeria.
I am quite
convinced that by the next four years, the story of handball will bot
be the same again in the country” he concluded.
