Lagos State Vows To Victor Ochei Wheelchair Basketball

Team Lagos signalled their intention to win the 2nd Honourable Victor Ochei International wheelchair basketball championship with convincing performance against Kwara in the quarter-final match decided on Thursday inside the indoor sports hall of the National stadium, Surulere.

 The team tutored by coach Ayinde Balogun put up another vintage performance despite having some their top players on the beach as they humiliated their hapless opponent with a 59 to 2 points victory and secure a place in the semi-final.

 The Kwara state are new to the game but Team Lagos coach, Ayinde and chairman of the Lagos state wheelchair basketball association, Prince Adeshina Adeyemi believe the host team did not only benefited from an inexperience opponents but reap reward for hard work

They stated that the team prepared very well for the championship and boosted they the Lagos team which finished runners up at the first edition held in Asaba last year will go one better this year and win the tournament.

Apart from the playing beautiful basketball, the team arguably is the most colourful in the international tournament which also had national teams of three West Africa countries, Ghana, Togo and Benin Republic competing.

The association chairman ascribed the feat to support received from the Lagos state government through the Ministry of youth sports and social development. Team Lagos will face Edo state in the semi-final on Friday after the Edo team beat Bayelsa 18 - 4.

 In other quarter-final matches, Defending champions, Delta state defeated Ghana team 44 - 17 and Benin Republic recorded a three points win over Imo state with a 15 to 12 points victory.

 Delta state will face Benin Republic, the only remaining international team in the championship in the first semi-final at 2pm on Friday while the encounter between Lagos and Edo is sheduled for 3pm.

The Wheelchair Basketball championship is being sponsored by Sir Victor Ochei, the honourable speaker, Delta State House of Assembly.
