Three former Spanish stars attached to United Arab Emirate Pro League side,Al-Jazira Sports Club, are of the view that the Golden Eaglets preparing for the Orange Confederation of African Nations Under 17, in Morocco, are filled with potentialities that could be transformed into future mega stars.
The trio of Luis Milla, Thomas Christiansen and Julian Calero, who paid a visit to the Eaglets' camp today at the Aspire Academy for Sports Excellency, praised the Nigerian youngsters for defeating Al-Sadd Sports Club of Doha by a lone goal in a friendly played last Friday.
"The big plus for African players is that they are strong physically but it's nice watching your team with their movement on, the ball," said Milla, the head coach of Al Jazira Club while conversing with some officials of the team.
Milla, who led the Spanish Under-21 to win the 2011 European championship, noted that adequate preparation was a prerequisite for a good performance at a tournament, adding that the Aspire is an ideal environment for the team.
Speaking further on the Golden Eaglets, Christiansen who is an assistant to Milla, said there was a huge difference between African players and their counterparts from the Middle East.
“Your players have huge possibility in the future as compared with our players,” stated the 2003 German Bundesliga top scorer. “Most of our players are already made with luxury cars and sometimes, it’s difficult for them to come with the demands of professional football but these young boys have brighter prospects.”
Added Calero: “Your training is intense and the players must be very strong to be able to cope with such but we know that African football thrives on physical ability which is commendable.”
They wished the team resounding success in their quest for the Orange CAN Under 17 title as well as a ticket to the FIFA U-17 World Cup in the UAE later in the year.
