Chairman of Nigeria Academicals Sports Committee, NASCOM, board, Yemi Idowu, has urged the Golden Eaglets to put behind them Wednesday’s loss to their Ivorian counterparts at Morocco CAN Under-17 and focus on qualification for the 2013 Under-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates in October.
The Golden Eaglets must avoid defeat in their last Group match against Congo on Saturday to have a realistic chance of progressing to the semi finals of CAN Under-17 which would guarantee them a ticket to the World Cup.
Idowu who was at the game in Marrakech to offer his support to the team, told the Golden Eaglets after they bowed to a 1-0 loss to the junior that all hope is not lost yet even as he demanded an improved performance against Congo on Saturday.
“Its better you hear the noise of the jubilation Ivorians very well,” Idowu told the crest-fallen lads after they surrendered their unbeaten run. “If you don’t like their noise, you have to respond by winning your next game against Congo on Saturday.”
In a related development, the proprietor of the famous Nath Boys Football Club of Lagos has affirmed his commitment for the Golden Eaglets saying the team would be well prepared once they secure a ticket to the World Cup.
“We have to support this team very well to secure ticket for the World Cup and I would do my best both in personal and official capacity, “he said.“ They should do their best against Congo and qualify for the World Cup first.”
Meanwhile, former NFF Vice President Amanze Uchegbulam who is on assignment with CAF at the CAN Under-17 team has equally charged the Golden Eaglets to go all out against Congo on Saturday.
“Everybody has huge expectations about you, so go out and show that your earlier 6-1 win against Ghana was not a fluke when you play against Congo on Saturday,” he told the players. “Go and redeem yourselves against Congo and I know you would do us proud.”
