The final Nigerian sevens rugby squad to travel to the African regional championship in Mombasa, Kenya, has been released by the NRFF.
The team, dominated by players in the professional leagues in England, is drawn to play in Group C alongside Madagascar, Senegal and Uganda in the 11 nation tournament.
The team has been in training in England under the expert guidance of Sam Howard the GB U23 head coach (the development team for the 2016 Olympics) and is confident of a successful tournament.
Players on standby to travel include the live wire Nuhu Ibrahim (Barewa RFC Kano), Obi Wilson (Barewa RFC Kano) and Samson Yahaya (Nigeria Police Lagos)
Kenyan social media sites have been sending out a warning to Nigeria and other countries that this is rugby, not football, and that they intend to defend their reputation as the top sevens side in Africa alongside South Africa with everything they have but the Nigerian go there with a steely resolve to give the sevens world a wake-up call ahead of the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh next year.
