All is now set for the sixth edition of Speaker’s soccer cup as the competition will kick-start on the 26th of August in four centers as the tournament will be played on knock out basis.
The centres are Lagos State University, Ojo, Sports Complex, Onikan and Agege Stadia and Strong Tower Academy sports complex, Ikorodu.
Chairman, House Committee on Youth, Sports and Social Development, Honourable Lawrence Babatunde Ayeni, said the committee held a meeting on Wednesday with the management of Lagos Junior League led by its chairman, Kamaldeen Bayewu, Commissioner for Local government and chieftaincy affairs, Ademorin Ku...ye in a bid to organize a hitch free competition.
Ayeni, said the meeting was imperative
because the crop of football players who would be featuring in the
annual tournament are Junior League players, adding that the Speaker’s
cup would serve as a pre-season to the new Lagos Junior League season.
According to him, the competition’s registration form will be out today for all the interested teams as the tournament’s draws will be conducted in August at the Lateef Jakande conference room at the Lagos state House of Assembly.
Ayeni said the competition would enable the state Football Association to select the best players ahead of the 2014 National Sports Festival in Calabar, Corss River State.
He said the committee had written an official letter to the Nigeria Police Force to forestall soccer violence at matches venues, adding that the tournament's disciplinary committee would sanction any team that fail to adhere strictly to the rules and regulations guiding the tournament.
