The Nigeria Football Federation has commiserated with former Super Eagles’ Assistant Coach, Mr. Sylvanus Okpala, who lost his mother on Tuesday.

Madam Deborah Okpala reportedly died on Tuesday after a brief illness.

NFF’s Acting General Secretary, Emmanuel Ikpeme said the Federation and Nigeria football family are in deep grief over the death of Madam Deborah Okpala.

“The Nigeria Football Federation and the Nigeria football family mourn with Sylvanus Okpala at this time of his loss. It is always a painful thing to lose a parent, and we truly feel for him at this period,”
said Ikpeme.

Okpala, an Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), was in the Green Eagles’ squad that won the Africa Cup of Nations on home soil in 1980, and also captained the Eagles to the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, Korea Republic.

Okpala was an Assistant Coach of the Super Eagles when the team lifted the Africa Cup of Nations trophy in South Africa earlier this year.
