The
3rd Kensington Adebutu Cup under 20 football championships in Lagos was
concluded on Friday as Jokers stars football club of Lagos Island
emerged champions.
The
grassroots soccer championships sponsored by chief Kensington
Adebukuola Adebutu foundation had 32 teams participated in the
tournament organized by the South West youth soccer association in
conjunction with Kensington Adebukuola Adebutu foundation.
Jokers
stars defeated last year's losing finalists, Smart strikers of Oke Aro
in the final decided at the Onikan stadium on penalties following a 1
all score line at the end of regulation time.
Jokers
FC won the penalty shoot out 4-3 to win the trophy and the top prize of
one million naira while the second placed Smart Strikers got the sum
of 750 thousand naira.
B
unit football academy from Surulere finished third in the tournament
after they came through a 4-3 penalty shoot out victory over Zamadek
football club of Epe in the third place playoff.
B unit got the half a million naira for their third place victory while Zamadek smiled home with 250,000 naira.
Speaking
at the finals, tournament sponsor, chief Kensington Adebutu thanked the
South West youth soccer association for organizing the competition and
congratulated all participating teams in this year's tournament.
He
said sports is veritable platform to empower the youth and the football
tournament which has produce some players for the national junior teams
is his contribution to national development.
Chief
Adebutu added that the under 20 tournament is a opportunity for the
state to discover young players that will be groom and trained to play
for national and international teams.
Awards
were also presented to individuals in recognition of the contribution
to the success of the championship amongst who is the commissioner for
youth, sports and social development in Lagos state, Barrister Wahid
Enitan Oshodi.
