Governor Babatunde Fashola on Wednesday
hosted the President of the confederation of African football, CAF,
Issaquah Hayatou at the state house house in Marina.
The
CAF president had paid the governor of Lagos state a courtesy visit as
the centre of excellence will on Thursday play host to the 22nd edition
of the annual Glo CAF Awards which celebrates the best footballer in
Africa.
CAF
president, Hayatou commended Governor Fashola for his commitment to the
development of sports as well as his contribution to the success of the
Nigeria National teams
Hayatou
who was in company of the CAF executives and that of the Nigeria Football
Federation lead by Aminu Maigari attributed the government's support of
the government to the achievement of the Nigeria senior national team,
the Super Eagles which won the nations cup last year in South Africa and
also the under -17 team, Golden Eaglets winning the last FIFA U-17
World Cup in the United Rab Emirates.
In
his speech, Governor Fashola praised the leadership of the
confederation of Africa football, CAF for the efforts on developing the
beautiful game on the continent.
He
said CAF has been remarkable by ensuring the continent hosted the FIFA
world cup which was held in South Africa in 2010 and also bringing the
clubs across the world to play on Africa soil with the recently
concluded FIFA world club championship held in Merrakech, Morocco.
Governor
Fashola then charged the continent soccer ruling body to leverage on
the success recorded and do more to bring the economy of world football
to Africa.
