LG Boss Sponsors Amateur Boxer's Training Tour to London.

As part of efforts to keep the youth of the street and propel them for a great future, Chairman of Mushin local government, honourable Babatunde Adepitan, has concluded plans to sponsor a Lagos state boxer, Taiwo Agbaje, on a training tour to the United Kingdom at the Famous Repton boxing Club,London.

Adepitan, who described the promising youngsters as an ambassador of the local government and  Lagos state,  said Agbaje had made the local government and the state proud and it is imperative for the council to help him achieve his lofty dreams of becoming a world champion.

The young amateur boxer, Taiwo Agbaje is expected to embark on a training tour to London to horn his skills at the Famous Repton boxing Club, thanks to the LG Boss who described the promising youngsters as an ambassador of the local government and indeed Lagos state.

"He's from Mushin local government and apart from that he's a promising boy who knows what he's doing, he knows his career and he's really pursuing his career to the extreme of making an achievement. I have attended some of his fights and I saw the ability in him to develop his talent, so because of my own attitude to assisting and helping the youth especially when it comes to empowerment, that's is own empowerment and boxing is the area where we can assist him to grow and since then I have been assisting him morally and financially to make him achieve his dream".

Throwing his weight behind the boxer, the council boss, who could not hide his admiration for the talented youngster who has won a lot of laurels in his fledgling boxing career,  Adepitan, said the gesture would make Agbaje to achieve greatness in his career as he charge the boxer to continue working hard and be a good ambassador of the country during his training tour in London.

"Many of our youths are talented but they find it difficult to identify their goals not to talk of achieving it but in his own (Taiwo) case, he has identify his goals and he's pursing it. There are so youth roaming about street, they don't even know where they are going, they don't know what they are doing on earth, they don't know where the earth is taking them to."

"What we can do as a government is to encourage and sensitize them by advising them when they are closer to us."There is poverty alleviation programmes that we put on ground to assist the youth and it's a general empowerment where we give cash for them to do one business or the other and buy machines and equipment for those that are learning one job or the other".

Agbaje, who have been invited for the national camp ahead of the forthcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, will be welcome to the training facilities of the Repton Boys boxing club, London for the second time, having trained at the club with his colleagues from the Lagos amateur boxing association when the team participated at the sir Henry Cooper boxing classics.  Honourable Adepitan said this kind of opportunity will make Agbaje to achieve greatness in his career. 

"He's been taken way from the street now and getting this kind of opportunity now mean that in the next few years, he will become a great person for the this local government, for this state and for Nigeria at large."

"A person like this is somebody we must put in all our best to make sure we assist to achieve his goal. I am seeing him as a future prospect not only for himself and his family but for the nation"

He then charged the boxer to continue to work hard and be a good ambassador of the country during his training tour in London.

 The boxer will depart Nigeria on Friday, February 28, 2014, for London.
