In
an effort to provide a worthy and professional career in the youths, a
member of Lagos State House of Assembly, Honourable Omowunmi
Olatunji-Edet, has entered into a mutual agreement with Starruf Football
Academy, owned by former Super Eagles goalkeeper,Peter Rufai.
Honourable Olatunji-Edet, who revealed this in an interview with sports journalists, said her decision to delve into such project was to give opportunity to talented football players who would be discovered and nurtured to stardom by technical team of Starruf Football Academy.
The lawmaker, said former SuperEagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufia, who is the brand ambassador of Honour Omowunmi Olatuji Edet Amazon Football fiesta, would through his football academy, further exposed the best among the players to the basic fundamental of becoming a professional player whose service would be needed by the national teams.
The lawmaker from Oshodi-Isolo constituency two, while thanking Peter Rufai, for her vision and dream of empowering the youth through sports, said the competition was a fulfillment of her promises of staging a football competition after table tennis competition she organized to mark her fortieth birthday.
According to her, a total of sixteen grassroot football clubs within the constituency participated in the tournament which has now reached quarter final stage.
To this end, Ejigbo mini stadium will host the quarter final matches fixed for next Friday through Sunday, 21st of September, while the final comes up on Sunday, 28th of September at the Lagos State Polytechnic, Sports Complex.
Apart from the Most Valuable Player, Highest Goal Scorer, Best Behaved Team awards among others, the legislator will also give Awards of Excellence to Nigerians among whom are former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Governor Babatunde Fashola, Speaker of Lagos State, House of Assembly, Right Hon, Adeyemi Ikuforiji,Deputy Governor,Orelope Adefulire,Governor's Wife, Dame Abimbola Fashola, among others
Speaking on the tournament, former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai has called on sports philanthropists, corporate bodies and the government at all levels to emulate Honourable Omowunmi Olatunji-Edet in sponsoring sporting activities to produce world class athletes.
Rufai, who is the brand ambassador of Honourable Olatunji-Edet soccer competition tagged 'The Amazon Football Fiesta 2014, said he was elated to be part of the legislator's progressive ideas and investment in the lives of youths in Lagos State through a football competition.
The goalkeeper who after retiring from football have been engaging himself in series of research and coaching, said he would introduce some of the discovered players to the national teams and different football academies and clubs across the nation.
