Nigeria's Ubon, Mohammed Qualify For Semi-final

 

 Nigerian’s Joseph Ubon and Mohammed Mohammed have booked semi-final places in the boy’s singles event of the 2014 ITF West & Central Africa Junior Tennis Circuit holding at the Tennis Club de L'Amitie Cotonou, Benin. 

 

Third-seeded Ubon, who won the two phases of the Togo version of the point-winning tournament, breezed past Kouadio Koffi of Cote d’Ivoire 6-0, 6-3 and will now meet Chisomo Lumeta the second seed from Malawi. 

 

Though Umeh is seeded below his southern African opponent, he looks good to secure a final ticket having beaten Lumeta in their most-recent meetings which was the final in Togo.

 

Mohammed, on his part, got the better of his fellow Nigerian Ikechukwu Iloputa in a tight contest which he won 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(4) and now has Gueninle Ouattara standing before him and a place in the final.

 

Ubon and Mohammed also paired to beat Dominique Gandonou and Dossou Gandonnou of Benin 7-5, 6-2 and will now confront Thailand’s duo of Palaphoom Kovapitukted and Itchya Meesommon for a place in the final.

In the girl’s singles, fifth seed, Elizabeth Garos-Pam of Nigeria was upset by the hosts’ Esperence Follykoue 7-5 6-3. 

She however keeps her pedigree in the doubles as she partnered Zimbabwean Nicole Dzenga to move into the semi-final following their 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Ghanaians Yvonne Bruce-Tagoe and Franciscan Nyarko.

Garos-Pam and Dzenga will battle Cote d’Ivoire’s Marie Adomon and Ahou Kouadio in the semifinal.
