Ekofootball, British Council Plans Big For Women Football

The Lagos State Football Assosciation,LSFA, says the Eko football will help to reposition women football in the state with the clear vision of developing the girl child, not only her football skills but also her intellectual capacity in other areas of human endeavor.

"This is another bold plan of the LSFA to reposition women football in the State, with the clear vision of developing the girl child, not only her football skills but also her intellectual capacity in other areas of human endeavour. By the end of this Programme will not only see better footballer players but bold and confident young ladies that in a few years will bring honor and glory to the country". Seyi Akinwunmi, Chairman Lagos State Football Association stated.

Speaking at the kick-off the Ekofootball Premier Skills Nigeria program for secondary school girls across the State last Saturday at Iponri Estate Junior High School, Iponri, Lagos, Akinwunmi informed that the Programme which has the support of the British Council and the English Premier League will produce the next generation of Super Falcons.

He said the Programme is running simultaneously in all the six educational districts across the State with over 260 girls undergoing training not only in football but also attending classes in other areas of human development.

Akinwunmi who is also the 1st Vice President of Nigeria Football Federation revealed that the girls will undergo the training for 9 (nine) Saturdays after which each district will form a team that will take part in an Inter Districts Women Football League.

Also speaking, Roy Chikwem, Project Manager, Education and Society, British Council says the Programme is a 2 (two) way development Programme which has seen School Sports teachers undergo a Train the Trainers program by experts in various fields from England, earlier in the year,

He added that Lagos State Football Association credibility informed the decision of the British Council to partner the Association. He also thanked the Lagos State Ministry of Education for its immense support of the Programme.
