Fashola To Donate 10 Million Naira To LBHF

Governor Babatunde Fashola has promised to donate the sum of ten million naira to the Lagos Boxing Hall of Fame, LBHF, the initiator of regular monthly boxing show in order to sustain and add value to the growth of boxing in Lagos State.

The Governor, who made the statement at the sixth annual Governor's belt at the Sir Molade Okoya - Thomas Sports hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium, said he would continue to support the growth of boxing aven after his exinction in office as the Governor of Lagos State, adding that he would also increase the financial assistance to stage the boxing contest from a million to two million naira on monthly basis.

Fashola, who gave two ipads to six years old boxers, Adebayo Waris of Kingstone Primary School, Ajegunle and Akani Balogun of Afolabi Primary School, Oshodi, to support their education, said discussion were in top gear with the management of LBHF to help the state's amateur boxers to turn professional pugilists.

While congratulating Dauda Azeez, a Lagos state boxer, whose excellent performance against a Ghanaian boxer, Suleiman Tetteh in the forty - nine kilogramme earned him the champion of this year's edition of Governor's Belt,

Fashola said the Lagos state government had used the competition to create friendship and also to prepare a new generation of young Nigerian boxers to compete in a well organised tournament.

He said the competition which started in 2009 as a grassroot initiative has taken the boxers to many parts of Nigeria as other states are competing in the event, adding that the competition has exposed the boxers to greater opportunities with the partnership deal with Repton Boxing club of England.
