The technical crew of Nigeria's Super Eagles, says the exit of Gbolahan Salami from the team will pave the way for other invited Nigeria's domestic league football players to prove their worth in the African Nations Championship,CHAN, which kick-off next month in Kigali, Rwanda.
Less than three weeks to the African Nations Championship, CHAN, Warri Wolves striker and highest goal scorer in the Nigeria Professional Football League, Gbolahan Salami, has opted out of the tournament in search of greener pastures in Europe.
The Warri Wolves striker is the only player yet to rejoin the Eagles
training camp in Abuja with officials suggesting he is in the process of
completing a transfer overseas.
The team media officer, Toyin Ibitoye, said Gbolahan Salami did not inform the team technical crew of his intension to travel abroad for greener pasture as he stressed that the striker would not be part of the squad to the CHAN since he had been given enough time to join the team ahead of the tournament in Rwanda.
He stressed that the absence of Salami would not destabilise the team despite scoring sixteen goals in the league which make him the highest goal scorer in the last concluded 2014/2015 Nigeria Professional Football League season, adding that Salami was a good striker whose scoring prowess could help the team to win the tournament.
According to Ibitoye, the team which comprises of twenty- five football players would be pruned down to twenty-three as the team would depart Abuja on Saturday for Lagos State where they would board a flight to Rwanda, adding that the team would play Cote D'Ivoire and Angola in international friendlies.
Eagles will play its opening match against Republic of Niger on 18th of January, 2016 at the Stade Regional Nyamirambo, Kigali before taking on other Group C opponents, Tunisia and Guinea.
