The first edition of the North-Central Junior Tennis
Clinic served of in Abuja on Wednesday with no fewer than 49 players from seven
states in attendance. The states are Kaduna, Kano, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa,
Plateau and FCT.
Coordinator of the event Sunday Samuel informed that the tournament
which is being bankrolled by the Chairman of the FCT Tennis Association Mr.
Ifedayo Akindoju through Dayak Nigeria Limited is designed at producing talents
from the North and Central part of the country.
Samuel, who is also a coach and an NTF badge referee said: “You
will discover that at the last AJC West and Central Africa Qualifiers which
Nigeria won here in Abuja, majority of the players are from the region and this
shows that there is a lot of talents in this place hence our resolve to catch
them young in this particular part of the country.”
Tennis equipment and medals will be presented to the players
that distinguished themselves in the four day tourney scheduled to end on
Saturday.
Prominent among the participants are Friday Gabriel who won
two gold medals for Nigeria at the recently held AJC qualifiers as well as Musa
Sani and Saminu Abubakar, who also bagged silver medals in the 14&u doubles.
