State Unversal Basic Education Board, SUBEB and Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives have emerged champions
of the thirteenth edition of Head of Service Cup, HOS, which ends today
at the Soccer Temple, Agege Stadium, Agege.
Ministry
of Agriculture and Cooperatives, which beat SUBEB, 5-1, on spot-kicks after the match ended One-all draw in the semi final clash in the female category,
overwhelmed Lagis State Sports Commission, LSSC, by two unreplied goals
in the final of the female version of the competition.
Emaowodia
Esther of Ministry of Agriculture was adjudged the competition's Most
Valuable Player while Rosemary Dennis of Public Service Office, PSO won
the Highest Goals Award after netting fourteen goals.
Prior
to final of the male event, Vehicle Inspection Service, V.I.S,
outpulled Lagos State Fire Service in the male cadre by two straight set while the female team of Lagos State Fire Service defeated Vehicle
Inspection Service, by two straight set.
In
the male's final, the tournament's defending champion, SUBEB, retained
the competition's trophy after defeating Lagos State Traffic Management
Authourity, LASTMA, by four goals to one.
In
a post match interview, the H.O.S, Folasade Adesoye, said plans were in
top gear to expand the scope of the competition by introducing new
sports apart from football and Tug of War.
Adesoye,
who performed the ceremonial kick-off, said the tournament which was
introduced by the former Head of Service, Yakub Balogun, in twenty -
zero- six, was to foster the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie in
the public service, adding that it was also to promote physical exercise
among public servants.
According
to her, the tournament which started as a novelty match between
Ministries, Departments and Agencies, including Local Government
Council's, is played by bonafide Public Servants in the State.
