Femi Okunnu All Secondary Schools Tennis Championship To Stroke Off Next Monday

All is now set for this year's edition of the Femi Okunnu All Secondary Schools Tennis Championship tentatively fixed for the twenty sixth of this month at the Yoruba Tennis Club, Onikan.
The Sponsor, Femi Okunnu, said the tournament whixh started with five secondary schools in the state was to encourage young Nigerian tennis players to garner enough experience and exposure in the field of tennis.
Okunnnu, who played Hockey for Nigeria in 1952 and 1953 said the tournament was geared at catching the young tennis players at a tender age where they would acquire modern techniques of training to enable them stand out in the future.
He said heping the young tennis players to play tennis on a regular basis would go a long way to build the players ahead of future challenges as he prays to see a Nigerian tennis players in the first round of ITF international sanctioned tennis tournament.
While appreciating the effforts of the Yoruba Tennis Club to make available its tennis throughout the duration of the tournament, the former Chairman Board of Trustee of the Club, said the programme has recorded huge success in the terms of increased i the number of schools participating in the event.
While advising the tennis players to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship, Okunnu, said with the assistant of private spirited individuals such Cjief Molade Okoya Thomas to help talents discovered to travel abroad to widen the horizon in the sport.
He indicted the Nigeria Tennis Federation,NTF, for failing to uplift the standard of Nigerian tennis players in a bid to compete favourably with their counterparts in Europe and beyond.
