Nigeria Beat U.S To Place Second Behind Serbia

Nigerian male team yesterday defeated United States in their last group match of the ongoing World Team Table Tennis Championship in Moscow, Russia.

Nigeria added to the woes of the Americans who are yet to beat any team in group F of division two.

The trio of Seun Ajetunmobi, Monday Merotohun and Aruna Quadri overcame American trio of Li Peter, Niraj Oak and Michael Landers three games to nothing.

Ajetunmobi defeated Peter in a match that lasted for 20 mniutes as Monday Merotohun outplayed Oak three games to nothing while cureent African Singles champion, Quadri gave Landers to express himself when the American won the first match at 13-11.

Quadri added three defeats in a row at 11-5, 11-7, 11-7.

For the female team, the target for a return to the second division will continue as well after the team maintained a clean sheet in all their matches.

On Sunday, the team outstroked Pakistan , went on to beat Macao , Montenegro , Kazakhstan and Latvia to amass the maximum points from the group.

The team will also confront other top teams in each group to fight for places in the second division.
