Defending champions Unity Bank Plc and Guaranty Trust Bank have Saturday qualified for the final of this year's edition of the Kaduna Corporate League Cup football competition.
Both sides qualified for the final match scheduled to hold on June 5 after the two semi-final matches played at the training pitch of the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna.
The competition according to the organisers is an annual
event for staff of banks, telecommunications companies and insurance groups in Kaduna and its environs.
In the first semi-final match, Unity Bank whipped United Bank for Africa, UBA, by five goals to nothing in a match which opened with fierce exchanges but faded
into a one-sided affair as the game wore onto its end.
After even opening exchanges, Jamilu Amadu, the match’s Most Valuable Player broke the ice with the first of his two goals in the 10th minute.
Ibrahim Yakubu added the second goal some seconds just before the half-time break, while Amadu got his brace nine minutes into the second half.
After Amadu failed to earn a hat-trick in the 57th minute by hitting a penalty kick against the cross-bar, Tukur Abdullahi made it four goals in the 63rd minute while Abbas Balarabe completed the routing in the 78th minute.
Efforts by goalkeeper Shoile Wale, team captain Shehu Musa and striker Seun Aminu to save the day for UBA yielded no fruit as the winners never let their foot off the throttle of control throughout the match.
The second semi-final match saw another close match from the onset, but this time around it was really close till the end despite the massive scoreline of 3-1 against Fidelity Bank.
GTBank took early command through Philip Karim’s 24th minute goal, while Alan Gotipson drew level for Fidelity Bank seven minutes later.
Danlami Fodge restored GTBank’s lead three minutes to half-time, and Karim’s second goal of the day in the 51st minute ensured victory for his side despite a ding-dong affair that only went close but never produced any goal.
Both Fidelity Bank and UBA will now meet in the third-place match scheduled to precede the final match scheduled for the mainbowl of the Ahmadu Bello Stadium.
The competition is being organized by the Bestworth Insurance Brokers. supported from Wadson Sports International and Bertsway Sports in Kaduna.
