
Fatima Abinu, seed One in the Ladies Singles has qualified for the qualified for the Semi final of the 32nd editio of the CBN Tennis Open Championship at the tennius courts of the National Stadium, Surulere.
Abinu, was able to achieve the feat after beating Magaret Olagundoye, seed Six, 3 - luv as Olagundoye delibrately quit the second set when it was obvious that she could not contend with Abinu's strokes.
Abinu who defeated Cristy Mbadiwe in the second round, 7 - 5, 6 -3, in the quarter final.
In other games played, Aanu Aiyegbusi, seed four, beat Ronke Akingbade, 6 -1, 6 - 4, to slug it out with Blessing Samuel, seed five, who beat Abiola Akewula, 6 - 4, 3 - 6, 6 - luv.
In the Men's Singles event, seed One, Sunday Emmanuel beat Monday Igbinovia, 6 - 1, 6 - 1, to book a date with Thomas Tolu, who beat Moses Micheal, 6 - 1, 6 - 3.
In other games played, Candy Idoko beat Emmanuel Onyejiaka, 6 - 1, 6 - 1, to confront Clifford Enosoregbe who outstroked Tyolomun Tyav, 6 - luv, 7 - 5.
Henry Atseye beat Albert Bikom as Lawal Shehu, seed 6 beat Nonso Madueke, 6 - 2, 7 - 5, to book a date with Abdulmumuni Babalola seed two who outplayed Abdulahi Hamidu, 6 - 2, 6 - luv.
However, tennis opundits have regarded the pairing of Shehu Lawal, seed Six and Abdulmumuni Babalola, seed two, as the battle of the titans.
In the Ladies Doubles, the duo of Fatima Abinu and Omotayo Ibrahim beat Bukola Olowu and Elizabeth Olatunji, 6 -1 , 6 - 4, to qualify for the Semi final.
Chidima Abba and Christy Mdadiwe outstroked Osarien Airhunwunde and Rose Onoja, 4 - 6, 6 - 3, 10 - 6.
Other winners are Blessing Samuel and Christy Agugbom and the duo of Nosa Esorae and Magaret Olagundoye as the all the double events in the Ladies and Men's categories will be concluded on Friday.
