
Lagos State Government recently inaugurated the Main Organising Committee, M.O.C, of the Senatorial Games that would commence soon in the State.
Honourable Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Social Development, Prince Ademola Adeniji-Adele, made this known while inaugurating the Committee.
The Commissioner, said the Committee should come up with a detailed action plan that would involve members of the State Executive Council adopting and promoting the game at their various senatorial districts.
He further said the action plan should be such that members of the EXCO would be able to bond with their community thereby providing avenue for mentoring of our future generation.
Prince Ademola Adeniji-Adele also opined that, the Senatorial Games is essentially a grassroots’ sports for catching and developing young talents that abound in the State. He also said that, the ultimate desire is the establishment of Sports Club in schools which should be the smallest unit of Lagos Sports Associations. He emphasized that, the MOC should evolve an enduring model for the State.
The Chairman of the newly inaugurated MOC for the Senatorial Games, Honourable Deji Wellington, thanked the State Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola and the Commissioner for Sports for the opportunity to serve on the Committee.
Wellington said the Committee would strive to meet the Government’s expectations and also surpass the government expectations as he promised that they would not abuse the confidence reposed in the Committee.
The Chairman opined that, the Committee’s objective will be the development of sports within each senatorial district in the State. Identify and discover the enormous talents that abound at the grassroots’, especially among pupils with the aim of nurturing them to international standards.
Members of the M.O,C include the Chairman, Honourable Deji Wellington; Mr. S. Alasela; Mrs. Babs; the Director of Sports, Lagos State Sports Council; Bolaji Yusuf; Mr. Ogidan; Bamidele Disu; and Surveyor Olayemi.
