University of Lagos Beach Soccer Team has won the Beach soccer event in the ongoing Lagos Inter Tertiary Institutions Games after beating Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education in an exciting match which climaxed on Sunday at the Lagos Bar Beach.
The University of Lagos Beach Soccer team which is the defending champion came from Three goals to One to beat Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education in a match that ended four goals to three in favour of Unilag.
To qualify for the final, University of Lagos Beach Soccer team Lagos Polytechnic by three goals to One in the Semi final as Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education defeated Yaba College of Technology to book a date with University of Lagos, Akoka.
Coker Oluwaseyi of Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education scored the first goal as the institution increased the tally when Terga Johnson of Unilag scored an own goal to make the scoreline Two - One after Oluseun Toluwani scored Unilag first goal in the first quarter.
At the resumption of second quarter, Coker Oluwaseyi, who was an outstanding player in the match scored again to make the score line Three - One in favor of the College o Education.
The trio of Oluseun Toluwani, Terga Johnson and Musa Seriki scored a goal each to give Unilag the trophy and a cash prize of Three hundred and Fifty thousand Naira as Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education boys settled for two hundred thousand Naira.
Yaba College of Technology beat Lagos Polytechnic in the third place match to grab a sum of One fifty thousand Naira.
The Chief Coach of the Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Oyeyemi Sunday Olufemi, has attributed his team defeat to Unilag to fatique and lack of concentration.
Olufemi, told sports weight.blogspot.com, that his players were unable to have enough rest after the Semi final clash against Yaba College of Technology and that his striker whio scored a brace in the mach was deprieved of making serious attempt to score more goals in the second quarter.
The coach, said the inability of the team's goalkeeper to be at his best also culmunated to their defeat as he conceeded undeserved goals especially in the last quarter, adding that goalkeeper was at his best during the Semi final encounter.
While reacting, the coach of te University of Lagos Beach Soccer team, Akindele Macpherson Ogunsomore, said the team vast experience in the game beach soccer pave the way for his boys to win the match.
The coach who commended the AOCOED players, said he team was able to win the match after he deployed two defenders to stop the College of Education striker, Coker Oluwaseyi, from releasing powerful shots wich the goalkeeper found very difficult to stop or grab.
He advised corporate bodies and private individuals to support the State government to further develop Beach Soccer, adding that football is better developed because it has overwhelming support from the corporate bodies, Government at all levels and private individuals.
