The Executive Committee of Nigeria Football Federation, has commended President Goodluck Jonathan, for listening to the pleas of NFF and other well –meaning Nigerians to review the decision to withdraw all Nigerian national teams from international competitions organized by FIFA and CAF.
This was contained in a communique released by the NFF after its emergency meeting held yesterday at Abuja.
The Board also appreciated the Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo, the Minister for Sports, brahim Isa Bio, for their great roles during the crisis.
The NFF, assured Nigerians of its determination to lay a solid foundation for the sustainable development of football in Nigeria, adding that the Federation would be guided by the principles of transparency, accountability and due process.
The Executive Committee also apologized to Nigerians for the dismal outing of the Super Eagles at the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals in South Africa as they pldged to pay more attention to age grade football development at the grassroots level..
To this end, the NFF has approved a national female and male Under 16 football competition among all the 774 local councils in the country, to be named ‘President Goodluck Jonathan Cup’.
The Committee has directed the NFF Management to ensure that all necessary arrangements are made to enable the Falconets depart for Germany today for the 5th FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, taking place in Germany between 13th July to 1st August, 2010.
The Executive Committee has approved that an Extra –Ordinary General Assembly of the Nigeria Football Federation be convened on Friday to address urgent matters affecting football administration in the country.
The Committee registered its appreciation to all the Football Associations of the 36 States and the FCT, the media and all other stakeholders for their support and understanding during this trying period in our football history.
