The Executive Committee of Nigeria Football Federation has commended President Goodluck Jonathan, for reviewing the decision to withdraw all Nigerian national teams from international football competitions organized by FIFA and CAF.
The Board also appreaciated the Vice President, Mohammed Namadi Sambo and the Minister for Sports Commission, Ibrahim Isa Bio, for their great roles during the crisis.
The NFF, under the new leadership, assured Nigerians of its determination to lay a solid foundation for the sustainable development of football in Nigeria as the Federation said it would be guided by the principles of transparency, accountability and due process.
The Executive Committee apologized to Nigerians for the dismal outing of the Super Eagles at the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals in South Africa, adding that younger, disciplined and committed players would form the nucleus of the new team for future competitions.
The Committee pledged to pay more attention to age –grade football development particularly at the grassroots, including schools and academies.
To this end, the Executive Committee approved a national male and female Under 16 football competition among all the 774 local councils in the country, to be named ‘President Goodluck Jonathan Cup’.
Following FIFA’s withdrawal of threat of sanctions as a result of the Federal Government’s gracious move, Executive Committee has directed the NFF Management to ensure that all necessary arrangements are made to enable the Falconets depart for Germany today for the 5th FIFA Under 20 Women’s World Cup, taking place next week through first of August.
Executive Committee has approved an Extra –Ordinary General Assembly of the Nigeria Football Federation be convened on Friday to address urgent matters affecting football administration in the country.
