LSFA Suspends Bethel FC For One Year Over Disciplinary Issue

The disciplinary committee of the Lagos State Football Association, LSFA, has suspended Bethel Football Club for one year.

Rising from its meeting last weekend at the secretariat of the Lagos FA at Onikan Stadium, the F. A’s Disciplinary Committee headed by Tade Azeez, took the decision after the committee meet with the representatives of Bethel football club and Fame football club.

Bethel F.C was suspended because of the unruly behavior of its supporters in a match against Fame FC in the ongoing Lagos FA Cup.

The match had to be abandoned at the end of the first half of the match by the centre referee when the fans of the suspended club became very unruly and violent as some of them threatened to deal with the match officials if they lose the match.

According to him, the team’s coaching crew who are expected to know the implications of such behaviour did not help matters as they are also involved in the unruly behaviour.

Apart from the suspension, they also forfeited the match to their opponent who now moved to the next round of the championship after the decision of the disciplinary committee.

Speaking after the meeting, Azeez who is the Vice-chairman of the Executive Committee of the FA, said the committee had to take a decisive action on the matter to serve as a deterrent to others, especially club officials, who are expected to know better.

However, Bethel F.C appeal will only be listen if only they are able to produce the leader of the unruly fans, who is popularly known as “Lado”.

Meanwhile the round of 16 of the championship would begin today with giant killers, Kelly Football Academy taking on Stanley Global Football Club, while the defending champions, First Bank Football Club will confront Gateway Football Academy.

On Tuesday it will be the turn of ‘My People Football Academy against National Amateur side, Bolowotan Football Club in the first match of the day while Rodo Sports Club and M.F.M Football Club, Yaba will slug it out in the second match of the day.

The third and last match of the day will see Ajalli United football club playing Eleven Strikers football club, while it will be turn of Awori United and Fame football club to fight for a place in the quarter-finals.

On Wednesday Young Stars football club will take-on C.O.D football club and Bridge football club confronting Alvasto football club.

All the round of 16 matches, quarter-finals and semi-finals games will hold at the FIFA Legacy Pitch, National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos. While the finals will come up at the “Wimble Stadium of Lagos”Teslim Balogun stadium, Surulere.
