Assistant Coach of the Nigeria Junior Tigress, Peter Favour Ahmedu, has said that unruly attitude of the Nigeria Basketball Federation,NBBF,towards the team's coaching crew and the players ahead of the FIBA World Under 19 Championhip in Chile was an act of humilation.
Ahmedu, who was absolutely disappointed over the manner at which the NBBF officials disgraced the team's coaches, said the NBBF delibrately put them in the dark as regrads to the team's travelling for the tourney.
According to him, he got wind of the team's travelling to Chile through his players who infromed him that the Federation's Secretary,Francis Gbiri, had urged the three home based players,Emmanuela Chukwuedo, Charion Ogharanduku and Osas Juliet Igborie, to meet him at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, adding that Gbiri abandoned the players for hours before he arrived to inform them that they would not be able to honour the tourney.
The coach of Aspac Basketball Club of Cotonou, Benin Republic, confirmed that a total of 20 foreign based players went to France for a training tour in June in readiness for the tourney but it was disheartening that they were not carried along to ascertain if the team would still feature in the tournament, adding that no concrete has be given on the failure of the team to compete in the FIBA Under 19 World Championship.
He said the lackaidasical attitude of the NBBF was uncalled for especially at a time when the Nigerian basketball coaches are working hard to record remarkable feat in the sport.
