First Bank Basketball Club Sustain Unbeaten Run

It was a revenge mission for the First Bank Basketball Club of Nigeria in ongoing 17th edition of the FIBA African Club Championship for Women as the club sustained its unbeaten run after beating First Deepwater on Wednesday in the continetal basketball fiesta.

Fisrt Bank Basketball Club that came second at this year's edition of the Zenith Bank/NBBF Women Basketball League, top the table with six points after beating her arch rival First Bank Basketball Club by 68 - 60 points in a game that came up at Sportshall of the National Stadium, Surulere.

The team which paraded half of Nigeria's D' Tigress members, Sadiq Rasheedat, Ekworomadu Joyce, Gardener Andre,Ogunjimi Helen and Whyte Patience who are foreign based basketball players took contorl of the firt two quarters, , 18- 7, 31 - 16.

The tempo of the game changed in the third and fourth quarters, as First Deepwater Basketball Club came out of her shell to contend with the First Bank Basketball players as the Oil and gas girls fought to reduce the tally in the last two quarters to wrap up the game.

Speaking at a post match interview, First Deepwater Coach, Lateef Erinfolami, attributted his woes to misunderstanding among the players prior to the game as he maintained that the first Deepwater Basketball Club was far better that the team he defeated during the Zenith Bank/NBBF Women Basketball League based on the inclussion of foreign based basketball players.

Erinfolami, explained that his players failed to respond to the game due to the in- fighting, stressing that First Bank Basketball had good strenght in defense and offense approaches to the game.

Coach of First Bank Team, Adewunmi Aderemi, the inclussion of foreign based players was to beef up a virile team that would lift the trophy on Nigerian, adding that the 70 percent of Interclube of Angola players are in the national team in a bid to win the tournament.

For today's pairings, Interclube of Angola will meet First Bank Basketball Club as Kenya Port Authourity challenges First Deepwater Basketball Club of Lagos at the sportshall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

Meanwhile, I.N.J.S of Cameroon has been declared general forfeit of the tournament having failed to show up for its third round robin match on Thursday.

The tournament's Technical Committee President, Alphonse Bile, the action was in comformity with the unified rules of competition of FIBA Africa.
