Founder and President of the Kids Golf International, Prince Kehinde Thompson has said that the leading golfing associations in Nigeria need to to move the game forward.
According to him, Golf in Nigeria was nothing different from jamboree parties where the who is who gather together to have a lot fun and go home after sinking millions of naira in the process.
He said the various Golf associations should come together and work out a mid to long term strategy for the development of the game so that recognised international players, amateurs and professionals will want to play in Nigeria.
He added that they should define and agree on their boundaries for tournaments and know who is responsible for any tournament.
The game is about to get a new face with the completion of modern golf facilities like the Lakowe Lakes in Lagos State, Elizade Golf Course in Ondo, the Saint Marks Golf Course in Benue state, adding that there is an urgent need to build and equip training facilities such as driving ranges closer to communities rather than within the 4 walls of a Golf Club or course.
Kids Golf international will be holding its first KGI/NKG All African Junior Golf Championships for childred aged 5-18yrs between April 9 - 14 2012 at the IBB Golf & Country club.
The event is supported by the LGAN, NGF, R&A, PGA & the US Kids Golf Foundation.
