Lagos State Basketball Association,LSBBA, has said that the state's City League would serve as a platform to assess the state basketball teams prior to the Eko 2012 Games in November.
Its Chairman, Babs Ogunade,explained that as the host state, the association's basketball players would not participate in the statutory inter -zonal elimination championship preparatory to the Games, thus it becomes imperative to put the athletes in a competitive tournament to ascertain the levelof their readiness.
Ogunade, who claimed that no states in the country had recorded more Gold medals than Lagos State basketball teams in the history of National Sports Festival, adding that the association is not ready to relinquish the position to any state.
He said the just concluded basketball championship at the outside court of the Lagos State Sports Council had afforded them the opportunity to select some players who would be invited to camp, adding that the selected basketball layers would be paraded at the annual Lagos City Basketball League where they would play against established players.
At the just concluded Lagos State Basketball Association competition, Lagos Flames
came top as Eko Fliers settled for the second while Police Rookies picked the third place slot.
In the male event Eko Fliers, came first Lagos Flames came second as Warriors Academy settled for the third position.
