Its Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Social Development, Barrister Wahid Enitan Oshodi, while speaking at the event to usher in the Season 5, MTN Lagos Street Soccer Championship, said the state was excited about the new season following the genuine interest the telecommunication has shown to grassroot sports development and youths empowerment.
"I want to thank our main partner and title sponsor of the property, MTN Nigeria Communications Ltd. They have been there from the start of this journey and have clearly demonstrated their commitment to grass root sports development and youth empowerment in Lagos State."
Oshodi, said his Ministry were proud to continue working on the existing relationship with the biggest telecommunications outfit in Africa as he expressed the Ministry's gratitude titled sponsor for its support over the years.
"I wish to thank the Chief Marketing Officer and General Manager, MTN Nigeria Communications Ltd, as we look forward to a successful and mutually rewarding partnership in the upcoming edition."
The Sports Commissioner, encouraged other corporate bodies to emulate the competition's tittle sponsor since sports could strive with the Public Private Partnership, stressing that his Ministry had opened up the property to non- competing brands as Access Bank is the competition's official banker while Staco Insurance is the official Insurer just as La Casera is the Official Soft Drink Supplier to the property.
He said season 5, MTN Lagos Street Soccer Championship had attracted innovations which is different from previous editions with the introduction of the Corporate Street Soccer, for corporate individuals in Lagos; Female Street Soccer, for the female footballers in the State; and the Player Mentoring Programme, which is aimed at scouting and mentoring precious talent discovered in this year’s competition.
He also apprciated the efforts of the chairmen of Local Government and Local Council Development Areas for supporting the programme with the registration of football teams.
"A quick mention to all our Local Government Chairmen present here today. As has been the pattern of the competition, the LGs continue to be the bedrock upon which our registration strategy is driven from. The LG Chairmen have been very supportive and I thank you for your support."
