The President of the Nigerian Football
Federation (NFF),
Alhaji Aminu Maigari on Thursday insisted that the Super Falcons of
Nigeria are
as important as the men’s senior team, the Super Eagles.
According the Maigari, the Falcons also
represent Nigeria
whenever they take to the pitch and must enjoy the full support of the
football
house and Nigerian fans.
“All the National teams in Nigeria are
equal. It is not only
the Super Eagles that the fans care about. The Falcons represent over
140
million Nigerians and we all appreciate the honor they have brought to
the country
over the years.”
“The team has conquered Africa 6 times
and it won’t be different
this time. The important thing is to motivate them, and I can assure the
team
that they have the NFF’s full support in all their activities.”
“I wish them the best of luck against
Zimbabwe, and I want
them to go out there and get a convincing win like they did in Harare.”
Maigari also reiterated his confidence in
the head coach of
the Falcons, Kadiri Ikhana, saying that his experience and achievements
over
the years as a coach make him the best man to take the team to greater
heights.
“I personally congratulated Ikhana after
his first victory
over Zimbabwe, and like I have always said, he is a very good coach. He
can do
this job and we have complete confidence in him. I have no doubt he will
take
the team to great heights. I am looking forward to seeing a lot more
from him”
The Super Falcons will also play an
international friendly
match against Banyana Banyana on June 23rd, and Maigari has
charged
the team to ensure that the unbeaten record enjoyed by Nigeria over
their South
African counterparts is maintained.
“South Africa has never defeated the
Falcons and I believe history
will repeat itself when we play them in Lagos. I have confidence that
they
[Falcons] will bring happiness to the hearts of all Nigerians on the
23rd.”
The
NFF President appealed to fans in Lagos State, whom he
describes as “football lovers” to come out in their numbers and support
the
team when they take on The Mighty Warriors of Zimbabwe in Teslim Balogun
Stadium on Saturday.
“The Falcons played away in Zimbabwe in
front of a huge
crowd and we would like them to enjoy the same when they play in Lagos.”
“Lagos is traditionally a football-loving
state and I
implore the fans to go to the stadium and support the team. They need
all the
support they can get from Nigerians.”
The Super Falcons will play Zimbabwe at
the Teslim Balogun
Stadium by 4pm on Saturday June 16, 2012.
Entry
into the stadium on Saturday will be free.
