To fill the stadium during the final of this year’s Federation Cup, five thousand students in Lagos will watch the glamorous tournament at the Teslim Balogun Stadium billed for Sunday, August 26.
According to the secretary of the Local Organising Committee, L.O.C, Oluyomi Oluwasanmi, plans are in top gear to ensure that soccer fans as well as students drawn from various schools in the state are part of the epic final, stressing that the Committee is also working with the Chairmen of the 57 Local Councils and LCDAs in an effort to restore the glamour associated with the tournament.
Oluwasanmi who acknowledged that some football legends of the competition would also be honoured during the final, explained that this year’s final would be a mixture of sports and entertainment.
According to her, the move became necessary following the concern of Governor Babatunde Fashola over the low turn out of fans during previous finals of the oldest tournament in the country.
Fashola, who donated a new silver trophy to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), says players in the country should always look forward to take part in the championship as the tournament had churned out great players for the country.
With top artistes expected to thrill fans during the finale, some fans will also have opportunity to watch the match live with tickets to be given out to them through a planned radio programme.
The Federation Cup is the oldest competition in Nigeria and has churned out great players for the country.
