After
nine match days, the season 5 of the MTN Lagos Street Soccer enters the round
of 64 with the draws slated to hold at the indoor hall of the Teslim Balogun
Stadium on Friday 17th August, 2012 .
It
is pertinent to note that the best 64 male teams are the worthy ones out of
over 840 teams that have gone through round 1, 2 and 3.
At
the stage, the female categories are also expected to join the train and
showcase their football skills at 16 designated match venues across Lagos state.
Out
of 53 LGs / LCDAs that have representation in 2012 edition, only 31 remains in
this crucial phase of the tournament.
Executive Secretary, MTN Lagos Street Soccer Championship, Deji Aladegbemi, said Surulere
Local Government had the highest number of teams going into the round of 64, Lagos Island
East / West, Agbado Oke-Odo, Amuwo Odofin, Oriade, Apapa, Epe, Ikorodu also has
good representation in this phase of the tournament.
Aladegbemi, said the
arbitration panel of the tournament chaired by eruditeAustin Akosa has
taken far reaching decisions in respect of eradicating improper conducts, match
fixing and registration of ineligible players.
Many
teams have been disqualified, fined and players even banned from participating
in the present and future competitions. The determination to use MTN Lagos
Street Soccer platform to rekindle best practices and transparency in
grassroots football is real.
Therefore,
up and down the five divisions of the state excitements is high and teams are
prepared to compete as the competition inched towards where boys will be
separated from men.
