MOC to inspect facilities for Eko 2012.

The Main Organising Committee, MOC, will on Friday visit Lagos State to ascertain the level of renovation works at the facilities designated for the EKO 2012 Games billed for November.

According to the secretary general of the Local Organising Committee, Kweku Tandoh, the inspection was at the instance of the LOC in order to ensure that the MOC get update of the preparation for the sporting fiesta.

Tandoh, said the visit was to acquint the Committee with the level of renovation works going on at all the venues expected to be used for the festival, stressing that the gesture is to caarry the Committee along on the level of preparations towards hosting a unique Games..

He confirmed that the MOC would inspect Onikan Stadium, Lagos State Sports Council, Rowe Park, Yaba and Teslim Balogun Stadium, adding that MOC team and the LOC would also meet to harmonise on the festival plans.

A visit to the Lagos State Sports Council showed that there is massive renovation works going on at the sports complex which comprises of the indoor sportshall outside courts, administrative block, Sports Medicine Association building, Wrestling hall and Judo hall, Squash court.

Already, the Lagos State Government had paid eighty percent of contract sum to the contractors handling projects and the contractors are expected to hand over the projects to the state government before first of October as the state athletes had been moved out of the sports complex to continue their preparation ahead of the Games.

The House Committee on Youth, Sports and Social Development that went on a tour of facility last week, expressed satisfaction with the spate of renovations works at the Sports Council but the committee urged the contractor handling Agege Stadium and the indoor sportshall of the Teslim Stadium to complete the project within the expected date.

 Its Chairman, Babatunde Ayeni, commended the state governor, Babatunde Fashola, for making available funds to provide world class sports equipment that would aid sports development in the state and also serve as a platform to train the athletes for the next National Sports Festival in Calabar as well as other international competitions.

He believed that the state governmet has put in place a structure for the maintenance of the sports equipment and facilities provided for the EKO 2012 Games.
