Fifteen professional foreign wrestlers will storm Lagos State for the second edition of the BRF Wrestlemania Championship billed for Saturday 3rd through 19th of November, 2012.
The tournament's initiator,Prince Hammed Mohammed, who made this statement while addressing sports journalists, said the maiden edition which recorded huge success following the involvement of Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola encouraged the professional wrestlers to declare their interest to return to Nigeria with a view to jostling for the twenty thousand dollars (20,000 dollars) prize money at stake.
"The invitation of foreign
professional wrestlers was another avenue to develop the sport and to
allow Nigerian wrestlers to acquire skills through the event.Any
Government that perform credible well by giving its people dividend of
democracy will be honour with the tournament as a mark of appreciating
the government concern towards providing basic amenities to its people"
According the prize money of twenty thousand dollars is meabt for a wrestler who is a able to win ether two or three titles among the eleven bouts scheduled for the wrestling championship which has already arouse the interest of Nigerian wrestlers who are already sweating it out at the wrestling ring at the National Stadium, Surulere.
He said the Local Organising Committee has already intimated Nigerian embassies across the world about the tournament in a bid to give them visa entry to feature in a two week wrestling event, adding that over one hundred Nigerian wrestlers were screened of which seventy wrestler were selected to compete in the BRF Wrestlemania Championship.
He explained that the increase in the number of Nigerian athletes was based on the advised of the Governor who want the event to be a platform to regenerate the standard of wrestling in Nigeria,hence the reason why the Committee decided to throw open the window for the Nigerian wrestlers to exhibit their skills.
Mohammed, who doubles as the President of the Nigeria Wrestling Ferederation,NWF, said the uniqueness of BRF Wrestling Championship which was part of their efforts to appreciate the Governor's outstanding performance in every facet of live, paved the way for other States Governors who are also toiling on BRF achievements to accept their proposal to host similar tournament in their states.
"Letters have been sent to 15 Governors and that you do not need to be told that a particular Governor is performing".The governors have received their letters and they are ready for for us to honour them and support their various developmental project through wrestling."
The NWF President, said Governor Adams Oshiomole has agreed to host Comrade Oshiomole Intercontinental Wrestling Championship because of the inherent values that the event would bring to the state and its environs, stressing that Edo State wrestlers would also have opportunity to compete along other notable wrestlers
