55 Foreign Tennis Players To Honour Governor's Cup Lagos Tennis Cup.

The increase in the number of foreign tennis players who have indicated interest to feature in the  International Tennis Federation approved  Governor's Cup Lagos Tennis is a sign of global acceptance of the championship and confidence the tennis players have in the organisation of the event.

Chairman of the Local Organising Committee,L.O.C, of the Governor's Cup Lagos Tennis, Pius Akinyelure, who made this statement while speaking with sportsweight.blogspot.com, said fifty five countries have shown interest to participate in the tournament which is billed to commence next Friday through 27th of October at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan.

Akinyelure, who mentioned that the sum of eighty thousand dollars(80,000 dollars) has been set aside as the tournament's prize money, explained that Nina Bratchikova of Russia, the past wiiner of the event and a second round player at the 2012 Australian Open, Laurent Rochette of France, Kamil Capkovic of Slovakia, Kristina Kucova and Anne Schaefer are among the foreign tennis players who would feature in the event.

"This year's edition of the Governor's Cup Lagos Tennis is made up of two Futures tournaments which would run between Friday,12th Saturday 27th Ocotber, 2012.The prize money remain Eighty Thousand Dollars."

According to him, the Committee would soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the JC Ferrero Equelite Tennis Academy of Spain where Governor's Cup Junior Championship would be granted scholarship to train four junior tennis players for a period of four months, two senior tennis players for six months intensive training programme while five tennis coaches cum administrators on yearly basis for three years would for a course at the academy.

While commending First City Monument Bank,FCMB, Etisalat Nigeria, Nigeria Tennis Federation and Lagos Lawn Tennis Club for their continued sponsorship to uplift the standard of tennis.

He commended Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, for his unflinching encouraging, support and confidence in all endeavors.
