7th LCBL: Team Lagos, Islanders Emerge Champions

Team Lagos women basketball team has emerge winner of the 7th edition of the Lagos City Basketball League on Saturday at the sports hall of the national stadium, surulere, Lagos with a 55 - 46 points win over Police Rookies basketball team.
Lagos State Basketball Association used the City league to prepare Team Lagos for the basketball event of the 18th National Sports Festival with Lagos as the host.
Team Lagos, men basketball team, however, failed to make it to the podium but is set for the task ahead at the sports festival as it had the opportunity to play against tested DStv Premier League teams and players.
Islanders’ basketball club semi-finalist in the DStv PBL final- 8 playoff won the men trophy with a 78-71 points’ victory over Chariot basketball club. Sea Rovers basketball team finished third in the women category while Union Bank basketball club won the men.
Sea Rovers defeated Hope ‘4’ Girls by 38-18 points to win the women third placement and Union Bank defeated Warriors Academy by 80-71 points.
Sharon Okwranduku of Team Lagos won the most valuable player (MVP) award among the women players while Michael Ohiero of Islanders won in the men MVP award.
SportsDay newspaper and Lagos Television (LTV) won the print and electronic media award.
Meanwhil,the Chairman of Lagos State Basketball Association, Babs Ogunade, has promised that 2013 edition of the city league would be bigger and better than this year's edition.
Ogunade, also called on the players and coaches of Team Lagos to re-double their efforts at molding a winning team ahead of the national sports festival.
The chairman call for more grades-A tune-up games so as to make the players stay focus and in shape, adding that nothing short of a gold medal would be accepted by the association and the state government.
