As part of his oversight function, Chairman, house committee on youth, sports and social development, Honourable Lawrence Babatunde Ayeni visited the Lagos table tennis team at their training camp to access their preparedness for the 18th National Sports Festival "Eko 2012".
The member of the Lagos state house of assembly who was on inspection tour to the various training camps met players and coaches of the table tennis and the deaf players who are fine tuning and perfecting skills in their closed camp inside the indoor sports hall of the Agege stadium.
Ayeni who was impressed with the preparation of the ping pongers said its heart warming to see the team working hard in the final phase of camping and believe their effort will be crown with success at the forthcoming games.
"As you can see, our Lagos table tennis team is preparing very well at this facility build by the government and with what I'm seeing here, the team is ready to go. About 21 medals is in table that is 7 gold, 7 silver and 7 bronze, they can win 10 to 15 medals" said Ayeni.
He commended the Lagos state ministry of youth, sports and social development for the support given the team.
Head coach, Lagos state table tennis association, Dele 'Malawi' Olasumbo said the players has been motivated to excel at the National sports festival. "
The Lagos state government and the commissioner of sports have done so many good for the table tennis team. We went to China o training tour and by the grace of God we will repay their effort by winning gold medals at the festival" said Olasumbo
