The Nigeria Football Federation on Tuesday mourned the demise of one of Nigeria’s veteran football administrators, Chief Ralph Beresford Bamidele Johnston, also known as R. B. Jah, who passed on Sunday. He was aged 83.
Chief Johnston was the Team Manager of the Senior National Team, Green Eagles’ squad that lifted the Africa Cup of Nations trophy in Lagos on 22nd March, 1980. He served on the board of then Nigeria Football Association during the chairmanship of Sunday Dankaro, between 1974 and 1980.
“The NFF has received with deep sorrow news of the passing of Chief Ralph Beresford Bamidele Johnston. He was one of the very best and our hearts go out to the family he has left behind”, said High Chief Emeka Inyama, Chairman of the NFF Media and Publicity Committee.
Inyama added: “We recall how much he was deeply involved in the hard work and painstaking efforts that resulted in Nigeria winning the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time. He served Nigeria football diligently and with dignity.”
