Angola clinched the AfroBasket crown after they overcame Mozambique in an overtime drama in Maputo to repeat their 2011 success in Bamako.
Nadir Manuel stepped up with 20 points and 7 rebounds to pace Angola.
It was a tough battle of two well-matched teams right from the start. Angola eked out a 16:15 lead after the opening quarter.
They stayed in front in the second frame. Angola arrived at the big break up by two points 31:29. The visitors stretched the gap in the third term.
They ensured a 46:40 advantage at the third break. But Mozambique erased the deficit in the fourth quarter. They used a 12:0 run to gain a 52:48 lead with under four minutes to go in regulation.
But Nadir Manuel hit four late points in regulation as Angola forced overtime. Angola quickly jumped to a 6-point lead in the extra period and rallied to the victory. Luisa Tomas finished with 17 points, while Catarina Camufal had 9 points for the champions. Anabela Cossa answered with 17 points for Mozambique. Leia Dongue netted 15 points in the losing effort.
