Super Eagles and members of the Nigeria Football Association, NFA, has returned to the country with tales of ill-treatment from Ethiopian fans in the first leg of FIFA World Cup play- off which ended two - one, against the Walyan Antelopes on Sunday.
Eagles media officer, Ben Alaiya, says apart from the fact that Nigeria's Super Eagles were given a bus infested with coackroaches, the police team attached to the team deliberately took routes that were prone to traffic jam, yet the team refused to be intimidated.
Alaiya, explains that all manner of soft drink bottles were hauled at Nigerian players and supporters, when the referee disallowed Ethiopian first goal in the first half as some Ethiopian soccer fans laid ambush to haul stones at the team’s bus while returning to its Saro Maria hotel, after the match.
To this end, the Vice President of NFA, Chief Mike Umeh, says the matter has been reported to the FIFA Security team at the match venue and he hopes action will be taken.
Inspite of the ill-treatment, the NFA has promised that it will give the Ethiopians the best of hospitality when they come to Nigeria in November for the return leg.
Super Eagles Coach, Stephen Keshi, says his team would not relent in their efforts when they play Walyan Antelopes of Ethiopia in the second- leg, on Saturday, sixteenth of November in Calabar, Cross River state.
Speaking after his side’s 2-1 win over Ethiopia in Addis Ababa at the weekend, Keshi says the tactical approach of the Ethiopian national side to the match showed that the Ethiopian coach was technically good.
Keshi, who hailed his players for rebuffing the Ethiopia national side, says the introduction of two players in the second half changed the mood of the match as it paved the way for Eagles victory.
