The much anticipated wheelchair tennis earlier planned to hold during the 13th Governor's Cup Lagos Tennis Championship has been shifted to hold much later after.
The decision to defer the staging of wheelchair tennis till other time was taking by the Local Organising Committee, LOC, when it was discovered that there would be no time for it considering the tight fixtures of the matches of the Governor's Cup especially in the morning hours since we are enjoying good weather in this year’s edition.
Prince Wale Oladunjoye, the Tournament Director said that the LOC had promised to collaborate with Nigeria Tennis Federation, NTF, whose initiative and appeal for the inclusion of this maiden wheelchair tennis is being considered for support at a later date.
The Governor’s Cup main-draws fixtures which had been fixed to begin by 12noon will now serve off by 10a.m each day of the competition to enable earlier conclusion of the first week and the grand finale in the second week on Saturday, 26 October; a shift from the earlier Sunday, 27 October penciled down.
The Tournament Referee, South African, Anton Rens has on Monday morning giving the LOC Saturday, 26 October as the grand finale date where Women’s Singles final will be played by 2p.m. and the Men’s Singles by 4.00 pm.
