FIFA and CAF technical committee member, Adegboye Onigbinde has warned the Super Eagles of Nigeria not to underrate the Walya Antelope of Ethiopia in the playoff round of the 2014 FIFA world cup in Brazil.
The former Super Eagles coach says the coach Stephen Keshi tutored Eagles must respect their opponent who has reached the playoff round of the qualifiers.
Onigbinde, charge the Eagles to approach both legs of the qualifier with utmost seriousness it deserves so that the nations flag will be hoisted at the world cup finals in Brazil next year.
"I have never regarded any match as a special match, i have regard every match as a match and I want my players to face it as that. I don't want them to raise any tension in any match.
"After all , we have see a lot of surprises in football. In 2002 at Korea /Japan, the French team were the defending champions and their first match against Senegal they were beaten by the Africans. We have made similar mistake in this country before and that's why we were not at the 2006 World cup in Germany because we assume from the start and at the end of the day we did not qualify so I hope we are going to repeat that mistake this time around " he said.
The Modakeke high chief says Ethiopia deserve credit for reaching this stage of the qualifer as they beat quality opponents in the group phase.
"Ethiopia competed to qualify to reach this level and we also competed so we should have a lot respect for them. I have never bother my head what the opponent look like, what I'm worried about is how the team is prepared. I hope the team will prepare adequately to face whatever the opponents are coming out to present."
Onigbinde who spoke about the need to overhaul the technical department of the Nigeria Football Federation, advise the country football ruling body that there is a lot to be done in that department.
"I have written papers on how to run the technical department and what we should have is not a technical director but a technical controller who should have other directors under him.
" There should be a director in charge of all national teams, all the chief coaches will report to him and then he will report to his controller. There should be a technical director in charge of development, his own assignment is to organize courses and sent people out for courses and so on and so forth"
